Music Monday is a meme, created by Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek, where I focus on a song I absolutely love and feel needs to be shared.
Song: “Thrill of the Fall”
Artist: The Reign of Kindo
Album: This is What Happens (2010)
Lyrics taken from genius.com
I feel a tension at the seams
I feel a pressure I never dreamed
I feel there’s something more at stake
Too late to run away, too late to run away
Something screaming inside me wants me to stay
I’ve got to stay
I’ve got to stay
Though this road up ahead is marked with sharp daggers and flames
I’ve grown addicted to the thrills of the mystery
I’m just a sucker for anything I’ll never see
Increasingly intrigued with impossibilities
Can’t help myself believe
There’s something we’re not seeing
It’s okay ‘cause, we’ll find it sooner or later
There’s a bridge just up ahead now
We can’t see where it will end
Oh it shakes in the wind and it’s narrow and thin
We hold on for dear life
I’m shaking at the knees
Ready for the world to see
I pray God’ll send relief
I’m scared as hell but
Something screaming inside me wants me to stay
Got to stay
Got to stay
Can’t keep my heart at ease
Run ‘til I hit the floor
I never had a key
I keep knocking at the door
Need to be in control it seems we never know
What lies in store for us
How can we keep this up?
There’s such a long way to go
But still we press onward the same
There’s a bridge just up ahead now
We can’t see where it will end
Oh it shakes in the wind and it’s narrow and thin
And the ropes that suspend it are fraying
It seems that we live for the thrill of the fall
Oh for the thrill of the fall
Relatively unknown, jazz/prog-rock band The Reign of Kindo created their own niche through the use of virtuosic compositions and odd time signatures; “Thrill of the Fall” showcases these two elements in earnest. Tapping along at a 7/8 time signature, “Thrill of the Fall” is syncopated in its structure with vocalist Joey Secchiaroli’s legato lines floating atop in a lovely juxtaposition. The lyrics speak to the want of following mysteries in life, even if they lead through video-game like hazards. The band has since rebranded itself as Kindo and released their newest album last fall.
