Music Monday: “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac

musicmonday

Music Monday is a meme, created by Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek, where I focus on a song I absolutely love and feel needs to be shared.

Song: “Dreams”
Artist: Fleetwood Mac
Album: Rumours (1977)

Lyrics taken from genius.com

[Intro]

[Verse 1]
Now here you go again, you say you want your freedom
Well, who am I to keep you down?
It’s only right that you should play the way you feel it
But listen carefully to the sound of your loneliness

[Pre-chorus]
Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering of that you had
And what you lost and what you had and what you lost

[Chorus]
Thunder only happens when it’s raining
Players only love you when they’re playing
Say women they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you’ll know, you’ll know

[Bridge]

[Verse 2]
Now here I go again, I see the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
It’s only me who wants to wrap around your dreams
And have you any dreams you’d like to sell?
Dreams of loneliness

[Pre-chorus]
Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering of that you had
And what you lost and what you had and what you lost

[Chorus]
Thunder only happens when it’s raining
Players only love you when they’re playing
Say women they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you’ll know, you’ll know

“Dreams” comes from one of the most famous albums of the 70’s by a band plagued with internal turmoil. Rumours, by Fleetwood Mac, marked a watershed point in the world of rock music; its track list is absolutely loaded with hits including “Don’t Stop”, “Go Your Own Way”, and “Dreams”. All of the songs on the album touch the theme of relationships, and this is especially the case on “Dreams”. The song is propelled by the rhythm section, with harmonizing guitar and vocals atop that add movement to the inherently mellow pace. The lyrics speak of love and the feelings after losing it. I find this to be a good tune for late spring/early summer because of its relaxed pace and swaying motion.
