Music Monday is a meme, created by Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek, where I focus on a song I absolutely love and feel needs to be shared.
Song: “Bedazzled Fingernails”
Artist: Mastodon
Album: The Hunter (2011)
Lyrics taken from genius.com
[Verse 1]
Give and take
We are full of pride
All is proved in time
[Pre-chorus]
Lay me down
Stand my ground
Lay me down
Stand my ground
[Chorus]
Taking a life
I see it flash before my eyes
Taking a life
I see it flash before my eyes
[Verse 2]
Rule by the head
Endure the test of time
Plant the seed of mind
[Pre-chorus]
Lay me down
Stand my ground
Lay me down
Stand my ground
[Chorus]
Taking a life
I see it flash before my eyes
Taking a life
I see it flash before my eyes
Known for their complex guitar riffs and progressive metal sensibilities, Mastodon took a step forward as a band with the release of their 2011 album, The Hunter. The first of their albums that was not based around a concept, the album saw the band explore new musical territory, as is evident on tracks like “Bedazzled Fingernails”. The track showcases what makes Mastodon great: unique vocal delivery, entrancing guitar, insane drumming, and bass guitar that actually comes through in the mix. In addition to their signature sound, phasers and psychedelic effects make their appearances not just in this song, but the album as a whole. This is a great song to cruise to during the summer due to its rolling groove and catchy pre-chorus.
