Music Monday is a meme, created by Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek, where I focus on a song I absolutely love and feel needs to be shared.
Song: “Arecibo Message”
Artist: Closure In Moscow
Album: First Temple (2009)
Lyrics taken from genius.com
My earthly womb in your monolith
You’ve got it sewn, bunching at my hips
I ventured to your city
To meet you at your throne
But I’m stuck inside your
Vestibule with no way to atone
I gnashed my vexing jowl at the
Suffragette crown
Temple steps above my cringe
Temple steps beneath my scowl
And what’s the use of pleading thirst?
I see you drinking from my cup
You’re not the flesh I was after
So I try scraping off the blight
Can’t get no passage to my terminus
When I’m dying every night
So don’t perspire with excitement
In fact don’t perspire at all
The jewel of my retribution makes empires rise and fall
My earthly womb in your monolith
How could you defy these
Precious little ones?
The very ones that showed you love
I know I know I know you’ve
Got that filament
So how could you defy these
Precious little ones?
Something’s got a hold on me
About to breach the seal
You’re not the flesh I was after
So I try scraping off the blight
Can’t get no passage to my terminus
When I’m dying every night
So don’t perspire with excitement
In fact don’t perspire at all
If the drones become enlightened you’ll have
Such a noble swarm
You know that you’ll have
Such a noble swarm
Australian band Closure in Moscow burst onto the scene in 2009 with their debut album, First Temple. Their music combined prog rock and pop punk to create a unique identity with songs like “Arecibo Message”. The song features singer Christopher de Cinque’s vocals and cryptic lyrics that flow like poetry through his delivery. Closure in Moscow’s musicianship is on show throughout with the fast guitar parts and drum fills before de Cinque returns with catchy melodies featuring vocal effects and layered harmonies. Though the band would seek something more experimental in their sophomore release, “Arecibo Message” is a good introduction to their first album and what makes them stand out as a band.

I actually saw them play in my home town years ago, and they were absolutely fantastic!

Lucky! I’ve seen live videos online and I know they sounds even better than the record; haven’t been lucky enough to see them myself.

Saw your post about Mew so I figured I’d checkout what else you recommend. I’m loving this band now.

I’m so glad! I love it when I can share bands and artists that deserve more recognition, but people haven’t really heard of.
