Music Monday is a meme, created by Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek, where I focus on a song I absolutely love and feel needs to be shared.
Song: “Far Away”
Artist: José González
Album: Red Dead Redemption Original Soundtrack (2010)
Lyrics taken from genius.com
[Verse 1]
Step in front of a runaway train
Just to feel alive again
Pushing forward through the night
Aching chest and blurry sight
[Chorus]
It’s so far, so far away
It’s so far, so far away
[Verse 2]
Cold wind blows into the skin
Can’t believe the state you’re in
[Chorus]
It’s so far, so far away
It’s so far, so far away
[Verse 3]
Who are you trying to impress
Steadily creating a mess?
Step in front of a runaway train
Just to feel alive again
Pushing forward through the night
Aching chest and blurry sight
Aching chest and blurry sight
Aching chest and blurry sight
[Instrumental]
[Verse 4]
Step in front of a runaway train
Just to feel alive again
Pushing forward through the night
Aching chest and blurry sight
Aching chest and blurry sight
Aching chest and blurry sight
“Far Away”, by José González, comes from the soundtrack of the critically acclaimed video game, Red Dead Redemption. In the game, players control a gunslinger in the Old West and perform missions while exploring the countryside and getting into all sorts of shenanigans. This song starts after the player accesses a new area in the game’s campaign, and sets up the scene through its ambiance. Carried along by a simple, repeated acoustic guitar part, González sings a lament of someone seeking thrills in order to feel something again. Vocal harmonies compliment the hypnotic guitar and this makes for a lovely track to listen to while traveling the highways of America.

Crazy how far video games have come, that now many/MOST have full soundtracks that can be hours and hours long! Not too many that I know of though have lyrics. Quite neat!
