musicmonday

Music Monday is a meme, created by Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek, where I focus on a song I absolutely love and feel needs to be shared.

Song: “Half Measures”
Artist: The Prize Fighter Inferno
Album: Half Measures EP (2012)

Lyrics taken from genius.com

[Verse 1]
Oh, that curb was yours for the moment
Alone, looking back at growing up
And the choices that led you here
The attention brings quite the excitement
But commotion will come to peace
And all you’ll find left is fear
We had your back

[Chorus]
Ooh, your mistake was giving up on yourself
And now, here you will stay for your crimes committed
You will receive everything

[Verse 2]
The words on the screen read “indicted”
The picture’s a broken scene
How tough love feels, it’s what you need
All these removed and reminded
Of a time when this wasn’t me
And we were still the best of friends
I hope you’ll be okay

[Chorus]
But your big mistake was giving up on everyone
And now, here you will stay for your crimes committed
You will receive everything
A new world inside, where cold walls feel comfortable
Where straight lines don’t curve
And oh, in the time you’re gone, your cells forgotten
Remember this: you are missed

[Bridge]
We gave our strength, and now we have no choice
The bird’s flown the coop and broke your singing voice
We can’t wait for you to change, we tried
So, until that day
Goodbye

[Verse 3]
The time on the bus will remind you
Of what you had and how you lost it all
But you can’t say that it wasn’t your fault

[Chorus]
‘Cause your big mistake was giving up on everyone
And now here you will stay for your crimes committed
you will receive everything
A new world in sight, where cold walls feel comfortable
Where straight lines don’t curve
In the time you’re gone, your song forgotten
Remember this: you are missed
You are missed

The title track from The Prize Fighter Inferno’s 2012 EP, “Half Measures” is a melancholy song of retrospect and loss. Singer Claudio Sanchez plays acoustic guitar and croons over top; his voice is joined by that of his wife, Chondra Echert-Sanchez, who harmonizes and adds to the ambiance of the track. The lyrics speak to someone who has made mistakes and is now paying the price, lamenting the friendship and relationship the singer had with them and wishing the best for someone who is no longer present in their life.
