Music Monday is a meme created by Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek where I focus on a song I absolutely love and feel needs to be shared.
Song: “Decisions, Decisions, Decisions”
Artist: He Is Legend
Album: It Hates You (2009)
Lyrics taken from genius.com
I have been dreaming of sailing away
I’ll build a boat out of paper-mâché
No belongings of any concern
I will be gone long before you will return
How can you try to hold on to
Names unequipped with a face
Look closely behind the ones in your mind
And safely beside the one that your heart believes
You’re breathing life into brown paper bags
You set one down, so I took a drag
I can feel you in my lungs
Think my heart might jump the gun
Who would you like to hold on to
And who would you like to erase
‘Cause I can’t decide, my heart and my mind
They don’t think straight, they don’t think straight
We’ve been very obsessed with the time
Picking the scabs that have grown from our minds
The world is a wonderful place
I wish I were there, I just can’t get excited about space
We’ve been so damn obsessed with the time
Picking the scabs that have grown from our minds
The world is a wonderful place
I wish I were there, I just can’t get excited about space
Can’t get excited about space
Now who would you like to hold on to
And who would you like to erase
“Decisions, Decisions, Decisions” begins by showcasing the band’s rhythm section and ability to layer delayed guitars. Singer Schuylar Croom’s voice croons atop the pulsing instrumentation, wasting no time before getting into the chorus of the song. Like many of the band’s songs, this track goes on a journey, beginning strong, taking a quiet break with the addition of sultry vocals, and finishing with a heavy ending. Croom is an amazing lyricist, and his words come off as the poetry they are by creating concrete and vivid images to compliment the sentiment of his words. This is one of my favorite songs ever, and it is one I never skip when it comes on.
