Music Monday: “When I Come Home (Reimagined)” by Anthony Green feat. Summer Swee-Singh

musicmonday

Music Monday is a meme, created by Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek, where I focus on a song I absolutely love and feel needs to be shared.

Song: “When I Come Home (Reimagined)”
Artist: Anthony Green featuring Summer Swee-Singh
Album: Would You Still Be With Strings (2019)

Lyrics taken from genius.com

[Verse 1]
I know that we’ve been snowed in for days
And we haven’t felt the sun
Storm has come, but I feel better off when I’m alone
If we ever make it past, with nothin’ left
(true love, true love, true love, true love)

[Chorus]
Don’t blame me if I’m right, you were always on your way out
You can take your time, I’ll be patient
Don’t hate me if I say “If there’s something I can change”
You’d still be in love, when I come home (when I come home)

[Verse 2]
I know that I’ve been closed up from you, thought it’s what I had to do
Lights gone out, but it feels brighter than when they were on
If we ever make it through, with nothin’ left
(true love, true love, true love)

[Chorus]
Don’t blame me if I’m right, you were always on your way out
You can take your time, I’ll be waiting
Don’t hate me if I say “If there’s something I would save”
You’d still be in love when I come home

[Outro]
It’s gotta count for something, I’ll be lost and honest well
Did the best with what I had, if you would count me out
Just don’t count me out
Don’t blame me if I run, you were always on your way out
You can take your time, I’ll be patient
Don’t hate me if I say “If there’s something, I would change”
You’d still be in love, when I come home
When I come home

Anthony Green, singer of the band Circa Survive, has had a prolific solo career, and this continues with Would You Still Be with Strings; a re-imagining of his 2018 album, Would You Still Be in Love features rearrangements of the songs by Summer Swee-Singh. Green’s earnest lyrics about leaving on the road and wondering about how he will be received upon returning to his family are accompanied by Swee-Singh’s stunning string and piano arrangements. As his raw delivery tugs at the heart, the piano ebbs and flows to crescendo during the chorus with strings adding an additional flavor. Though the song’s original version is incredibly pleasant to listen to, Swee-Singh add a new flavor and level of beauty in her re-imagining.
