Music Monday is a meme, created by Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek, where I focus on a song I absolutely love and feel needs to be shared.
Song: “Tengu”
Artist: Jake Bowen
Album: Isometric (2015)
Jake Bowen, one of the three guitarists in the heavy metal band Periphery, released Isometric, his first full-length LP, in 2015. A collection of instrumental techno and electronic music, a standout track is this week’s Music Monday pick: “Tengu”. Bowen makes use of ambient sounds overlaid by synthesizers and midi instruments. There is an inherent groove and a catchy chord progression as the staccato electronics are juxtaposed with piano chords and synthesizers. Bowen shows his ability to create catchy instrumental music that is more than just beeps and boops.

Periphery as a band is fantastic, but this album is really something else. Cheers for the recommendation!

It is such a great listening experience. Jake and Misha did another electronic project in 2018 called Four Seconds Ago that is also really good!
