My name is Erik Shinker and, like many of you reading this, I have loved reading from an early age. This blog originally began as The Past Due Book Review; after graduating from college, I made a conscious effort to diversify my reading, so this blog was my attempt at sharing that with others while also forcing my opinion on them. I expanded into music and movie posts under the name The Past Due Review and, after over two years of reviewing movies and books, I decided to take the blog in a more personal direction and re-brand as Perpetually Past Due. The posts you will see on here pertain directly to who I am; many songs, events, and people have shaped me into the man I am today and I hope to do credit to their importance in my life. I am also dedicating this blog to sharing the posts from bloggers of color and the LGBTQ+ community in an attempt to help spread their stories through my platform.

A little bit about my writing qualifications; in May of 2015, I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato. I studied English with an emphasis in Literature and Creative Writing and minored in Film Studies. I currently work as a manufacturing technical writer at a medical device company in Minnesota.

My writing has been featured in the 2018 editions of Minnesota’s Emerging Writers: An Anthology of Nonfiction and America’s Emerging Writers: An Anthology of Nonfiction, as well as Minnesota’s Best Emerging Poets 2019: An Anthology.

My non-fiction essay regarding my mental health journey can be read at MyLifelines

A reading of my poem, In(Re)trospect, can be heard through this link.
