Indefinite Hiatus

Well, this has been in the back of my mind for some time and the introduction of the obnoxious Block Editor on WordPress has been the final deciding factor for the blog.

As of today, I will be taking an indefinite hiatus from blogging.

I have pondered taking this action in the past, but continued on despite my misgivings. There is a silver lining in that I will be able to submit the poetry I write to actual publications, which I was often unable to do after posting them on my blog due to many of the publications’ submission requirements.

I want to take this opportunity to thank any and every person who has liked, viewed, or commented on my content; whether it was from the original book reviews, movie reviews, editorials, Music Mondays, or the more personal posts, please know that I would not have been able to grow as a writer without your patronage and I will be forever grateful.

I have been able to learn so much through this journey, and believe now is an appropriate time to move on to something new and exciting.

I remain,

Musings of a med student

This is one of the first poems I had written in school over six years ago. It is not as refined as I would’ve liked, but it holds a dear place in my heart – for two reasons. One, because it was when I wrote this that I fell in love with writing and poetry. And two, because the dream of travelling the world is one that is burnt beneath my eyelids. Every time I close them I picture myself in a new destination and it gives me immense joy. I hope that someday I have the time (and money) to actually travel far and wide. Until then, the dream will stay alive! I wanted to share this with my fellow bloggers, hope you enjoy it!

We shall race across the field, bare legged, We shall amble through quiet lanes in old towns We shall traverse towering mountains and lakes…

Sorrow Today, Strength Tomorrow

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Thank you so much for the topic suggestion, Miss Emma ❤

Like always, this topic is going to cover mental health, and mental health support.

“How can I support my friend that struggles with X?” Great question! Let me see if I can offer some help. It can be hard and confusing sometimes to know how to offer support to others in the way that they need. Often times I think we may reply with more simplistic terms or phrases in order to distract from getting to know our, or someone else’s deeper emotional needs.

The key to supporting others, especially when it comes to mental health, is simply by asking how you can be supportive to them. Some people may not know what they need, some people may have a list, some people may just want a hug. Asking how to be…

A Blog’s Purpose

I published a post about blogging last week, and a great point was raised by my fellow blogger, Bookstooge; he said he would be interested in learning the reason behind why I recommended connecting a blog to social media in order to share it with more people and invite online traffic. While thinking on this, I began reflecting about the journey my blog has taken me on and how I got to the point I am at today. So this is the story thus far; let’s start a little before the blog even existed and try to understand why it was created. Continue reading “A Blog’s Purpose”

On Blogging

I have been thinking about creating a post with some tips and tricks for blogging for some time now; though I already made a post regarding the unforeseen consequences of blogging, I wanted to give some advice and examples that have helped me gain the dedicated following I have. When I created my blog 3 years ago, WordPress provided a free e-book that gives tips for starting a blog and gaining traction. I will preface my advice by saying I followed a lot of what the e-book said, especially regarding tags and using SEO to get views and draw an audience to my site. What follows is advice I wish had been shared with me when I was first starting out.

New site name: Perpetually Past Due

I posted about the change in direction of this blog on Friday, and many of you asked me to keep you posted as to the new site. I am planning on keeping everything together here, under the same domain name for the time being, but the site is now called Perpetually Past Due. My Twitter handle is now @PerpetualPastDu if you want to go give it a follow and the Facebook page has also been updated.

I look forward to sharing more content with you and will start with a new Music Monday post tomorrow! The featured photo is of my family at my sister’s wedding back in September. See? Told you it would get more personal!
